The Jehovah's Witnesses back up their views from the Bible

Email: When I have a question for the Jehovah's Witnesses they always back it up with word from the Bible. I do know they use the Watchtower as a guide and not as a main source of study.

Response: It is true that the Jehovah's Witnesses do we use the Bible in support of what they believed to be true. Unfortunately, they have been guided by the watchtower Bible in track society in how to look at the Bible and what to believe about what it says. In other words, they do not use proper interpretive methods so that they get truth out of the Bible. What they do is read the Bible in light of their preconceived ideas and then interpret the Scriptures in order to make their view seem valid. Let me give you an example.

The Jehovah's Witnesses will typically used John 14:23 as proof that Jesus Christ is not God in flesh.

"You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I,'" (John 14:23).

Their logic is that since Jesus said the father was greater than he, then it is not possible that Jesus is God in flesh. They stop there. But the problem is that they ignore verses were Jesus is called God (John 20:28; Heb. 1:8), where Jesus claims the divine title of "I AM" for himself (John 8:58 and ref. Exodus 3:14), etc. Furthermore, they fail to understand that the Bible teaches that Jesus has two natures and that he was made for little while lower than the angels, and made under the law.

• Heb. 2:9, " But we do see Him who has been made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone."
• Gal. 4:4-5, "But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, 5 in order that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons."

Therefore, Jesus was in a lower position (being made lower than the angels and under the law) by becoming a man. As such, he would say to the father was greater than he. But note, Jesus did not say that the father is different or better. Jesus is only speaking of position, not nature.

This is the primary problem with the Jehovah's Witnesses. They try and make the Bible fit with their theology tells them and they ignore those verses that disagree with them.
