Islam by topic: Muhammad

by | Jun 9, 2016 | Islam, World Religions

Islam teaches that Muhammad was the greatest of all prophets, greater than even Jesus (even though they say Jesus was sinless and Muhammad was not!). However, Muhammad was sinful where Jesus was not. In the shahada, all people are called to acknowledge Allah and Muhammad as his prophet.  He is called the slave of Allah, yet he receives praise and to obey Muhammad is to obey Allah (Surah 4:80). Furthermore, Islam claims that Muhammad was prophesied in the Bible.  The only way he was prophecied in the Bible, was as a false prophet (Matthew 24:24).  Muslims believe that Muhammad is the greatest of all prophets of God and ought to be acknowledged as such by all people in the world.Muslim man praying in the manner Muhammad instructed

  1. Muhammad is an example of proper conduct
    1. Surah 33:21, “Ye have indeed in the Apostle of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah.”
  2. Muhammad is the best guidance is from Muhammad
    1. “Jabir b. Abdullah said: When Allah’s Messenger (may peace he upon him) delivered the sermon, his eyes became red, his voice rose. and his anger increased so that he was like one giving a warning against the enemy and saying:” The enemy has made a morning attack on you and in the evening too.” He would also say:” The last Hour and I have been sent like these two.” and he would join his forefinger and middle finger; and would further say:” The best of the speech is embodied in the Book of Allah, and the beet of the guidance is the guidance given by Muhammad. And the most evil affairs are their innovations; and every innovation is error.” He would further say:, I am more dear to a Muslim even than his self; and he who left behind property that is for his family. and he who dies under debt or leaves children (in helplessness). the responsibility (of paying his debt and bringing up his children) lies on me.”  (Book #004, Hadith #1885)
  3. Don’t annoy Muhammad
    1. Surah 33:57, “Those who annoy Allah and His Apostle – Allah has cursed them in this World and in the Hereafter, and has prepared for them a humiliating Punishment.”
  4. Muhammad could write
    1. Narrated Ubaidullah bin ‘Abdullah: Ibn Abbas said, “When Allah’s Apostle was on his deathbed and there were some men in the house, he said, ‘Come near, I will write for you something after which you will not go astray.‘ Some of them ( i.e. his companions) said, ‘Allah’s Apostle is seriously ill and you have the (Holy) quran. Allah’s Book is sufficient for us.’ So the people in the house differed and started disputing. Some of them said, ‘Give him writing material so that he may write for you something after which you will not go astray.’ while the others said the other way round. So when their talk and differences increased, Allah’s Apostle said, “Get up.” Ibn Abbas used to say, “No doubt, it was very unfortunate (a great disaster) that Allah’s Apostle was prevented from writing for them that writing because of their differences and noise.” (Sahih Bukhari, Book #59, Hadith #717)
  5. Muhammad was nearest to Jesus than all other people
    1. I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, “I am the nearest of all the people to the son of Mary, and all the prophets are paternal brothers, and there has been no prophet between me and him (i.e. Jesus).”  (Sahih Bukhari, Book #55, Hadith #651, Narrated Abu Huraira)
  6. Obey Muhammad is to obey Allah
    1. Surah 4:80, “He who obeys the Apostle, obeys Allah: But if any turn away, We have not sent thee to watch over their (evil deeds).”
  7. Obey Allah and Muhammad
    1. Surah 3:32, “Say: “Obey Allah and His Apostle”: But if they turn back, Allah loveth not those who reject Faith.”
  8. Praise to Muhammad
    1. Surah 33:56, “Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye that believe! Send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect.”
  9. Muhammad is a slave of Allah
    1. “…Abu Sufyan added, “Caesar then asked for the letter of Allah’s Apostle and it was read. Its contents were:– “In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful (This letter is) from Muhammad, the slave of Allah, and His Apostle, to Heraculius, the Ruler of the Byzantine. Peace be upon the followers of guidance…” (Sahih Bukhari, Book #52, Hadith #191: Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas)
    2. “I heard the Prophet saying, “Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians praised the son of Mary, for I am only a Slave. So, call me the Slave of Allah and His Apostle.” (Sahih Bukhari, Book #55, Hadith #654: Narrated ‘Umar)
  10. Muhammad was a sinner
    1. Surah 48:1-2, “Verily We have granted thee a manifest Victory: 2 That Allah may forgive thee thy faults of the past and those to follow; fulfill His favour to thee; and guide thee on the Straight Way.”
    2. Surah 40:55, “Patiently, then, persevere: for the Promise of Allah is true: and ask forgiveness for thy fault, and celebrate the Praises of thy Lord in the evening and in the morning.”
  11. Muhammad was mentioned in the Bible
    1. Surah 7:157, “Those who follow the apostle, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (scriptures) – in the law and the Gospel – for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure); He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. So it is those who believe in him, honour him, help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him – it is they who will prosper.”
    2. Surah 20:133, “They say: “Why does he not bring us a sign from his Lord?” Has not a Clear Sign come to them of all that was in the former Books of revelation?”
