Atheism

by | Oct 13, 2009 | Atheism, Secular Issues

The word Atheism comes two Greek words, a the negator, and theos, God. Atheism has a variety of definitions.

  1. There is no God(s)
  2. Lack of belief in God(s)
  3. Denial of God’s existence
  4. Non-belief in God(s)

There are two notable forms of atheism, strong and weak. A strong atheist would assert that he knows that no god exists, whereas, a weak atheist would say that they are sure to a certian percentage that no god(s) exists. Logically, one who is an atheist would also be an evolutionist. Some atheists claim to “exercise no belief in a god” the same way they would exercise no belief in pink unicorns. A few Notable modern atheists would include: Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Dan Barker, Richard Carriar, Edwin Kagin and Peter Singer.

The Bible clearly teaches that all men know there is a God (Rom. 2:14-15). Therefore, they will be without excuse (Rom. 1:20 ) on the Day of Judgment. Instead, atheists willingly suppress the knowledge of God by their unrighteousness (Rom. 1:18-19).
