Ascentia is considered a type of faith, but it is different from Fiducia.  Ascentia is mental assent, mental acknowledgment of the fact or existence of something.  It is different than Fiducia which implies faith and trust in that fact or existence. Where ascentia is nothing more than mental acknowledgment (the way the devil would acknowledge that God exists), Fiducia is faith and trust in God.
