Iconoclasm

Iconoclasm

Iconoclasm is the deliberate destruction of religious icons and symbols. Iconoclasts are those who destroy and/or hate religious relics and see them as detrimental to proper worship. Iconoclasm within Christianity is often supported by the command to not make an image of the Lord God and/or anything in heaven and earth where such images are used in religious adoration and prostration.

“You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 5 “You shall not worship them or serve them . . . ” (Exodus 20:4-5).
