Mitochondrial DNA

Mitochondrial DNA

cellMitochondrial DNA is the DNA found in the mitochondria organelles of cells which are located in the cytoplasm–that substance between the nucleus and outer membrane. Organelles are like mini-organs in the cell that perform various functions, and within these organelles are mitochondria in which resides the DNA. Generally, DNA is inherited only through the mother.
