Witnessing to Baha’is

by | Mar 25, 2010 | Baha'i, World Religions

This article is designed to give you some pointers when sharing your faith Baha’is.  I recommend that you also read the other articles dealing with evangelism on our website since they will deal with the issues of why we should share our faith and how we share our faith. That said, when witnessing to Baha’is, here a few things to keep in mind:Bahai

  1. Pray: 1 Timothy 2:1-7 tells us to pray for others because there is only one way to eternal life, through Jesus Christ.  Praying will also help us to focus on God and the task at hand.
  2. Talk about Sin: Baha’is do not believe in original sin.  When witnessing to Baha’is, the “Way of the Master” approach is one that I would recommend here. Ask the Baha’i if they believe if man is essentially good or bad?  Ask them if they are a good person or not?  Then share with them why as Christians we believe that humans are essentially bad.  Show them passages such as Romans 3:9-20, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12-21 and Romans 6:23.  Ask them if they have lied, stolen, lusted, etc. and then explain to them that this is breaking the law of God, which is sin, which separates us from God.
  3. Share the Gospel: Share with them how they can be forgiven for breaking the law of God.  Share John 14:6 and Acts 4:12, which shows that salvation is only found in Jesus Christ.  We cannot find salvation in any of the other Manifestations of God.  Also take them through Ephesians 2:8-10 so they will understand that our salvation is a free gift from God and not something that we can work towards.  We are saved for good works, not by them.  I would then show them Romans 10:9-10 to show them how personal salvation from their sins can take place for them.  Explain to them that we have to receive that free gift of salvation in faith through Jesus Christ.  Just like when you get a gift from a family member or friend, you still have to receive it even though it is free.  In the same way you have to receive the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Explain that they have to turn from their sins, believe in Jesus and receive Jesus as God in the flesh, who died for our sins and was physically resurrected.  Baha’is believe that Jesus rose spiritually, but not physically.  It might be helpful here to take them through 1 Corinthians 15:1-28.  Talk to them about the fact that Jesus was seen by over 500 people after His resurrection.  Then move on to the fact that without the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ, there is no salvation.
  4. Be Loving and Kind: My own experience with Baha’is has been very positive.  All of the Baha’is that I have met have been very kind and helpful to give me information.  As Christians, we should always be gracious and kind to those we come in contact with.  Matthew 22:34-40 tell us that the greatest commandment is to love our God with all of our heart, soul and mind.  The second most important commandment is to love our neighbor as ourselves, which should be evident in our actions.
